With “Getting to Know Each Other,” we invite you to join us on a journey of discovery as we spotlight the individual presses that comprise our community. Through a couple of questions and a glimpse at their book covers that reflect the essence of each member, we aim to celebrate the unique contributions and perspectives that collectively form our association.

The Publishing Centre of the University of Macerata joined AEUP in April 2025. Agostino Regnicoli, chief executive, has answered our questions. Thank you and welcome aboard!

Can you present your press history and mission?

EUM (Edizioni Università di Macerata), founded in 2006, aim at promoting, enhancing and disseminating the results of research and institutional activities carried out by the University of Macerata (UniMc), of which they want to be a showcase and a point of irradiation of the main founding values: research, dissemination within the scientific community, education and instruction, open dissemination to the whole society, training, equality and inclusion, quality, collaboration and commitment, sustainability, integrity and editorial ethics.

EUM are not a commercial publishing house obeying market logic, but a service offered to the academic community and to society as a whole.

What are your expectations from AEUP and how do you wish to contribute to the future of institutional publishing in Europe?

The University of Macerata – and consequently its University Press – combines a focus on the local dimension and on the international one: in fact UniMc sees itself as a European University, part of an alliance of seven Universities (ERUA) and attentive to the global context of a complex society. We are sure that the fact of being part of AEUP will enhance such attention, as well as EUM’s promotion of open access and high editorial standards, support of innovation in formats and editorial processes, particularly in the humanities and social sciences.

On the other hand, EUM’s publishing activity is intended as a small contribution to the construction of a more aware, human and supportive Europe: we plan to pursue these goals by sharing good practices and participating in working groups or initiatives aimed at improving the impact of academic publications of university presses.

If you were to choose only three of all you published titles as representatives of your press, what titles would you choose?

  • The first title is Anni memorabili (Memorable years), a selection of speeches by Winston Churchill, which is the first volume of “Prolusioni”, a Series that offers speeches by personalities of the past that are also valid for today’s readers.
  • Then we propose Il capitale culturale. Studies on the Value of Cultural Heritage, a scientific journal promoted by the Cultural Heritage Section of the University of Macerata, which makes use of multiple disciplinary skills united by the common objective of implementing study, research and planning activities for the enhancement of cultural heritage.
  • The third title is Roma e le province tra integrazione e dissenso, ed. by Simona Antolini, Jessica Piccinini, Federico Russo. This volume is part of the series “Mare Nostrum”, devoted to historical, political, economic, social and religious issues in the Mediterranean area during the Roman period and published in co-edition with Milano University Press.
