Building on our past experience, AEUP launches a Europe-wide survey mapping university presses and other institutional publishers. The aim is to build a structured, evidence-based picture of how institutional publishing actually works across Europe: publishing profiles, workflows, governance and funding models, and approaches to Open Access with a particular focus on Diamond OA.

Why your participation matters

University presses and institutional publishers play a vital role in scholarly communication, yet their diversity of models, languages, and disciplines is rarely captured in existing data. By participating in the survey, publishers help ensure that institutional publishing is properly represented in the policy and infrastructure conversations that shape the field.

What comes next

Following data collection, the AEUP board will carry out a structured analysis of the aggregated results. A first set of findings will be presented at the OPERAS 2026 & SCIROS Conference in May. Subsequently, we will publish a summary report based exclusively on aggregated data, ensuring individual presses cannot be identified. All results will be shared openly with participants and the wider community.

The survey results will form an evidence base for future advocacy, policy work, and infrastructure development, supporting more informed approaches to scholarly communication and sustainable Diamond Open Access across Europe.
